Friends,

As you may know already, the SP-USA (NYC) has been
organizing to stop the proposed merger between the
healthcare insurers GHI and HIP.  The combination of
these two currently not-for-profit providers will
create a new for-profit mega-corporation which would
have the ability to bankrupt NYC.  In addition,
for-profit conversions often lead to premium increases
and restrictions on access to care.  Clearly we need a
single-payer national healthcare system and as part of
that struggle we need to prevent this merger from
being green lighted by the NY State Superintendent of
Insurance.

Hearings are being held on Tues. Jan. 29 at 10a at 55
Water Street.  All New Yorkers are encouraged to
participate either by giving testimony or standing in
solidarity against the proposed merger.  All our
