Conference of Movement for a Democratic Society (MDS), Incorporated.

Date: February 17, 2007
Time: 9:00am to 5:30pm
Location: 65 Fifth Avenue (btwn 13th and 14th Streets, nearest train stop is Union Square), Room 102 - Swayduck Auditorium. (This is the New School University Graduate Center).
Cost: $5.00 at the door (tickets are available ahead of time at the New School)

9:00-9:45 Coffee and Registration

9:45 New School freshman Patrick Korte and Prof. Oz Frankel will offer
greetings and offer “regrets” from those sending messages, unable to attend
(Tony Kushner, Tariq Ali, Jayne Cortez, etc)

10:00 MC Paul Buhle, Brown University, will introduce Tom Good, SDS/MDS
organizer, who will offer a background of SDS’ relaunch since February,
2006, and will introduce the famed leader of the Columbia student strike of
1968.

10:30 Mark Rudd, Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute, will speak on
the history and values of SDS and their meaning for MDS

11:00 Co-MC Penelope Rosemont, Charles H. Kerr Publishers, will introduce
Manning Marable, Columbia University, will speak on the multiracial
struggle for justice, and the crisis in US society today

11:30 Jay Jurie presides as Senia Barragan, Brown University undergraduate,
activist and Punk singer will speak about the SDS role and the emerging
culture of resistance; joined on stage by Devra Morice, Brian Kelly and
other New York area SDSers/MDSers

12:00 lunch, on your own
Bert Schultz’ documentary on Fordham SDS will be shown. (15 minutes)
Michael Zweig will introduce his film “Meeting Face to Face” and field
questions after the film (45 minutes)

1:00 Penelope Rosemont introduces Barbara Ehrenreich to speak on social
crisis and the role of activists

1:30 Paul Buhle introduces Bruce Rubenstein to speak on Old Theories and
New, an Approach for the Left in the 21st Century

1:50-3:00 Discussion and Vote for MDS Board, Chaired Jay Jurie

3:00-3:30 Comments by Living Theater cofounder, Judith Malina

3:30-4:30 social hour, coffee, fundraising

3:30-4:30 MDS, Inc. board meeting [simultaneous with social hour]

4:45 to closing, Al Haber reads, “SDS, the Poem”
