River to River anti-war rally March 22nd

5 years of war! On this sober anniversary, we will join hands to symbolize our unity in the call for peace and for funding our communities, not war! Join us to form a human chain on 14th St. from Ave. A to 11th Ave. in Manhattan, on Saturday, March 22. Bring your friends, your banners, your signs. We will stand, hands joined, from noon to 1:00. Then both ends of the line (at 11th Ave and Ave A) will march in towards Union Square with each block filling in as the march goes by.

We will converge near Union Square around 2:00 for a somber commemoration of the casualties of this immoral war. Bring photographs and flowers. Later this week, there will be photographs that you can download from our website: US service people, Iraqis, wounded vets, victims of Katrina, etc. The bells will toll, we will stand for 5 minutes in silence and then Taps will be played.read more »

Site Update 2007-11-08

Comments are offline while we examine some error logs.

Preparing to update from 4.7.2 to 5.x, which may be a long and nasty process.

Sorry for any problems this may cause: we'll give ample warning when major updates happen. As of now the major code update is in the middle term (not begining until endf of November at the earliest).

Michael O'Riordan, dead at 88, Brigadista, Trades Union Activist, Irish Radical.

-------------------------------
I believe I briefly met O'Riordan at the Connolly Bookshop in Dublin in the late 90's, having no idea who he was, but noting his International Brigade pin. I'm as grateful for his sacrifice and bravery (both in Spain and at home) as I am troubled by his support for Stalinism and the suppression of my cdes in the Barcelona risings, which he defended.

A human being, after all, but still an inspiration.
